Governance

Our school is governed at a local level by an Academy Committee, comprised of individuals local to our community who have a commitment to improving education, parents and staff. The Academy Committee’s main role is to carry forward the vision, values, ethos and strategic direction of the school, hold senior leaders to account for the educational performance of the school, and ensure the voices of stakeholders are heard. The Committee meets regularly and individual governors also visit the school to oversee specific aspects of our work.

Academy Committee:

Chair of the academy committee - Rodney jamES (*Interim Safeguarding Governor)

I am now retired, but formerly worked in financial services and with the local council as Data Quality Manager.

My Hobbies and interests lie within sports, politics and current affairs, reading and family.

Both of my sons, who are now in their 30s went to Longthorpe Primary School, as does currently my eight year old grandson.

I became a governor to give something back to the school that has featured so much within our family.

mat governor - Colin hammond

WORK

Development Manager for a large Financial Institution

Governance experience

I have been a governor in different schools for over 20 years now.

Hobbies and interests

Golf and travelling, and watching lots of sport.

Why did you become a governor?

I wanted to give back to the community when my daughters were in school.  Although they are no longer of school going age, I continued to offer my services as I love doing the Governor's role.  It gives you a sense of “giving back” to the community.  I also wanted to see how the schools operate, and I now I understand it from both sides.

MAT governor - CHARLES FOWLER

MAT governor - THOM COLLEDGE

WORK

20 years experience as a Royal Air Force officer. Most recently, the Commander of a 300-person organisation delivering Low Earth Orbit Space Surveillance.

Currently taking a sabbatical to read for a Masters Degree in Politics and International Studies at the University of Cambridge.

Governance experience

Trustee of a number of armed service charities.

Chair of numerous volunteer committees.

Leader within the Scouting movement.

Hobbies and interests

I love being in the outdoors, travel and food. I’m drawn to the sea and have enjoyed racing other people’s yachts in recent years (much more affordable than owning one).

Links to the school/area

I live on the outskirts of Peterborough and have previously served at RAF Wittering.

Why did you become a governor?

I enjoy public service.

The best thing about my current job is working with young people – I find their energy and enthusiasm infectious.

I’m considering moving into the education sector as a second career and want to find out more about it.

PARENT governor - LISA DEACON (SEND GOVERNOR)

WORK

I work locally at Peterborough City Hospital part time in a job share managing the Cancer Wellbeing Service. This is a varied and rewarding role that requires multiple skills such as public speaking, fundraising, listening support, staff management and service development.

Governance experience

In a past role I was responsible for Risk and Governance in a small NHS Trust. This included compliance, regulation, complaints, claims and patient safety. I have Master's degree in Patient Safety Management.

Hobbies and interests

Sport, particularly field hockey, is my passion; I have played locally since 1994. Outside of work can be found at the gym, walking Rosie the Labrador at Nene Park, or transporting and watching Drew and Josh play sport - Karate / ice hockey / football / Taekwondo.

Links to the school/area

I love Peterborough and all it has to offer; I chose to bring my family up here sending my children to Longthorpe. I started volunteering for the school in 2023 and I am excited to support its work and future development.

Why did you become a governor?

Volunteering time and skills is an essential part of supporting our public services, especially sharing knowledge across sectors. I am fortunate to be able to offer my time regularly and have participated in a number of tasks, by far my favourite moment was in cooking… year 4 were attempting to add lemon juice to their soup!

STaff governor - Lisa waller
